World Bank Support to Bangladesh: The World Bank on Tuesday announced that it will provide an additional US $2 billion to Bangladesh in the current financial year. This US $2 billion amount will be given for important reforms, flood control, better air quality, health care and strong infrastructure development in Bangladesh.
World Bank regional director Abdulay Sek promised new aid during a meeting with interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka on Tuesday. Abdulay Sek said, “The World Bank is committed to increasing its loan to Bangladesh in the current financial year to help the interim government’s reform agenda.
The chief advisor gave information about this by posting on the social media platform X. Yunus wrote on X, “According to SEC, the World Bank will provide additional assistance of about two billion dollars in the current financial year to support critical reforms, flood response, improved air quality and health services.
Earlier, the US had also given Bangladesh $200 million in aid. According to the Bangladeshi Finance Ministry, it will use this money for the welfare of youth, improving health services and increasing business opportunities.
Amidst massive protests in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to flee the country, after which the political situation in Bangladesh completely deteriorated.
The protesters vandalised many places including the Prime Minister’s residence and the Parliament. As the situation worsened, atrocities were committed against the Hindu community. Many prominent Hindu temples in the country were demolished and set on fire.
After political upheaval, a new government was formed in Bangladesh. Nobel Prize winner Md Yunus has been appointed as the caretaker Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
